The Ghost Bride of Cumberland Falls

Directions:

Overview:

Reputed to be the second largest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains, Cumberland Falls has long been known as “the Niagara of the South.” For years, this majestic destination has played host to hundreds of newlyweds—sweethearts hoping to capture the jaw- dropping beauty of Cumberland Falls in their wedding photos.

Such was the case in the 1950s, when a handsome young couple ventured to Cumberland Falls, she in her wedding dress and he in his tuxedo, for a photo shoot. It wasn’t long, however, before tragedy struck. As the bride and groom climbed onto a ledge overlooking the waterfall, the young woman lost her balance and tumbled over the edge. Her body was never found.

In the years since the tragedy, the spirit of the young woman—still wearing her bone white wedding gown—has been seen roaming the narrow footpaths near Cumberland Falls and wandering the dreary corridors of nearby DuPont Lodge.
