Overview:
Mark Thatcher, who was often known as “Little Mark,” was born on March 3, 1887 in Somerset, Kentucky, where he lived in a stately home on North Main Street. On January 23, 1898, “Little Mark” and several of his friends were playing with bows and arrows when an errant arrow struck “Little Mark” in the chest. Before help could arrive, “Little Mark” succumbed to his wound, and in the days that followed, the boy’s body was buried in Somerset Cemetery.
hortly thereafter, the parents of “Little Mark” commissioned an artist to paint a portrait of their son. Today, this portrait can be found at the Pulaski County Public Library, where it hangs above a yawning fireplace—which might be the reason why the ghost of “Little Mark” is said to frequent the building.
Zach Bales had a famous encounter with the spirit of “Little Mark,” which is detailed in The Amateur’s Guide to Ghost Hunting by Zach Bales.
